Trump is STILL trying to Undermine Our Elections. Let us count the ways…
The New Yorker magazine is now wondering something many of us have been asking for awhile by now: which of the Trump Administration’s wrecking balls will prove most destructive:
- the one that accelerates global warming
- the one that abandons our allies
- the one that torches the economy,
- or the one that compromises public health?
Yet all of these are distractions from Trump’s long-held dream: destroying our free and fair elections. And toward that end, he wants to
- get rid of voting machines,
- suppress the vote,
- undermine election security,
- eliminate protections from foreign interference,
- neuter the independent oversight of election administration,
- and take us back to one single day of voting, ending a longer election season that gives everybody who couldn’t get off work to go vote a little more time to do so.
Trump is also considering banning the automatic mailing of ballots to us voters, and even raising the price of postage, so the costs to states for mailing you your ballot would be too high to sustain. And Republicans are trying to help by pushing something called the SAVE Act – that would force you to show more proof that you’re legal so you’re eligible to vote, including proof of citizenship.
