Action for Tuesday, 4/15/25

Voting box

The SAVE Act should NOT become law!
The SAVE Act passed the House on 4/10/25 with every Republican and four Democrats voting yes. It’s now headed to the Senate, where the vote will be closer. Though framed as a bill to prevent voter fraud, it’s really a voter suppression measure that would make it much harder for millions to register.
The bill requires proof of citizenship under a voter’s current legal name to register — meaning passports or birth certificates, not just a driver’s license. That disqualifies many married women who took their husband’s name, trans and nonbinary people, and anyone without access to original documents. It would effectively end online and mail-in registration and disproportionately impact young people, voters of color, low-income, and elderly voters.
Similar laws in Arizona and Kansas disenfranchised tens of thousands. The justification? Stopping non-citizen voting — a virtually nonexistent issue already covered by existing laws. Bottom line: this isn’t about election integrity. It’s about suppressing votes.
What can you do:

Call your Senate representatives and let them know you do NOT support the SAVE Act and are urging them to vote NO on the SAVE Act because of the potential negative impacts it will have on millions of Americans’ access to voting registration.
In addition to voting NO, urge your representative in the Senate to also call on their fellow Democrats to also all vote NO; especially the four Democrats that voted yes with Republicans in the House on April 10th.

NOTE: When you call, make sure to leave your full name and, at a minimum, the zip code you live in. You can leave your full mailing address as well.
