Trump Tariff-ies the Global Economy
Over the last week, we’ve been forced to watch as Trump unleashed his chaotic tariff plan, imposing sweeping charges to countries all across the globe, regardless of their status as our allies. Markets reacted as predicted, with stocks plunging and both world and national leaders condemning Trump’s recklessness for how it would hurt consumers, corporations, and small businesses alike. It took one week of heavy negative reaction to force Trump to reverse the downward trend by declaring a “90-day pause,” even while urging pals to buy more stock to add to their already considerable wealth.
There is still a blanket 10% tariff in place on virtually all nations, plus the whopping 145% tariff imposed on China, one of our most significant trade allies (at least up until now). As Trump continues to demonstrate his incapability to form a coherent plan, it is time to INSIST that Congress take back the power of the purse and reestablish checks and balances on our economy.
